Our Mediators

Ian Garner qualified as a solicitor in 1974, thereafter specialising in family law. He has been a member of Resolution (formerly the Solicitors Family Law Association) since 1987.

Ian trained as a family mediator in 1992 with the Family Mediators Association (FMA) and was accredited in 1995. For three years in the 1990s he served on the Board of Management of the FMA. In 1998 he obtained a certificate from what is now the Legal Services Commission enabling him to carry out publicly funded mediations, and in the same year became a founder member of Family Mediation in Sussex. He has worked as a full time mediator since 1999.

Ian has trained in Direct Consultation with Children, being regularly CRB checked, and as a Professional Practice Consultant to other mediators. He is authorised to conduct Mediation Information and Assessment Meetings (MIAMs).

Ian mediates in Hastings and Tunbridge Wells.

  • members of the Family Mediators Association and have met its requirements as to competent practice and work to its standards
  • recognised to conduct MIAMS, and Legally-Aided mediation
  • CRB checked, and trained to conduct Direct Consultations with Children (DCC)
