Welcome to Family Mediation in Sussex
A service established over 20 years whose experienced mediators all have the qualifications and skills to do a good job for you. We aim to offer clients a professional, friendly and cost effective service.
We are all compliant with the Family Mediation Council which (in conjunction with the Ministry of Justice), has drawn up a register of suitably qualified accredited family mediators who can use the letters 'FMCA'. From the start of 2016 only FMCA mediators are recognised by the courts as able to sign forms and conduct Mediation Information & Assessment Meetings (MIAMs) for the family court.
FMIS is also contracted to the Legal Aid Agency which operates a stringent Quality Mark for best practice in order to offer publicly funded mediation.
We are all mediators trained to offer Child Inclusive Mediation.
We aim to keep FMIS abreast of all changes in family law or mediation practice and regularly attend professional training courses on developments in family dispute resolution and in family law procedures.
Professional Practice Consultants (PPC) All mediators are required to have mandatory and regular consultation with a professional supervisor. Some of our mediators are PPCs working within FMIS or for other mediation services.
We are all involved and interested in maintaining the standards we set ourselves 20 years ago and in taking forward the whole mediation profession. Some of us have served on national or local representative groups for family mediators.
Most important of all is the commitment of everyone at FMIS to uphold the principles of mediation. We aim to remain impartial and help all participants equally to find resolution without increasing conflict in an already stressful situation.
