Parenting

Mediators have a central concern for the welfare of children and encourage parents to understand situations from the child's point of view.

FMIS mediators can discuss with you how to talk to the children to help them understand family changes that are happening. It is important that children can express their concerns and it may be possible for them to be seen separately by the mediator.

Discussing future plans for children can include:

  • Time with each parent
  • Sharing information with each other
  • Health
  • Education/Out of School activities
  • Religion and cultural practice
  • Holidays/birthdays/special days
  • Contact with friends& wider family
  • House rules
  • Making changes to these over time

We ask you however not to bring children to your mediation sessions as we are unable to provide supervision or insurance for them.
